So this morning Ray sent me a text message asking if I had heard about the media claiming the Virginia Tech shooter was inspired by 'Oldboy', and my first reaction was "What? Get the fuck out of here." There are no parallels in the story of Oh Dae-su (the main character in 'Oldboy') and Cho Seung-hui's. Oh Dae-su is kidnapped and imprisoned for reasons unknown to him at the time, and then once released has to unravel them in order to get revenge. How is that the same as some lonely kid with mental problems (I'm going to use the newspaper's words for the sake of argument) gunning down University students? Everybody is responsible for their own actions. It's just like Don Imus referring to the Rutgers University women's basketball team as "nappy headed hoes" and then pointing his finger at rapper's for using the word "hoes" in their music as an excuse, get the fuck out of here.
Entertainment is defined as "agreeable occupation for the mind; diversion; amusement", it's not an uncontrollable force that overrides your free will and makes you commit acts of violence.
But I get it, the shooter was South Korean and so is the film, it matches like identical clothing...Idiots
Their Attempt At Presenting Evidence...Oldboy (2003): http://www.lacoctelera.com/myfiles/contenido/oldboy-gun.jpgCho Seung-hui (2007): http://cho-seung-hui.info/image/Hui_Cho_seung.jpgBut it's funny because I remember...
Dr. Dre (1992):http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/Music/9509/rap_and_guns/rap_source.sm.gifI wonder what the fans on the imdb would say if I said 'Oldboy' was inspired by Dr. Dre. I repeat idiots...
